SUCCESS – the LARGEST joint meeting we ever had!

June 18, 2011 in General by VPPR Team

After several days of raining, we finally had a sunny day on June 26th!! That’s the day of the largest joint meeting of the Nanjing No. 1 Toastmasters Club with a subsequent barbecue event. The joint meeting was held together with the Shanghai 5A+ Toastmasters club and the Nanjing Alcatel Lucent Smart Speakers Toastmasters Club. Want to see the pictures, please have a look into our gallery!

The whole meeting was amazing. The qualities of all speeches were beyond imagination, which were full of humor and wisdom. The evaluation and suggestions given were sincere and effective. However, the highlight of the meeting was certainly the game section! Mugs with the Nanjing No. 1 Toastmasters Club logo (as the host club) have been ordered to serve as prizes. Everyone really tried their best to get the logo mug. If you could have been there, you would likely also have been infected by the harmonious and happy emotions.

The meeting was a wonderful communication platform, not only through the major aspects of providing high quality speeches and evaluations, but also through the small details such as the newly designed badges to acknowledge all role-takers.

Highlights of the meeting including the cute badges and the most wanted logo mug

After the hard work, it was time to relax! All club members moved on to have a joint barbecue at Gulin Park in Nanjing, which was as wonderful as the meeting in the morning. Not only the ladies, we were surprised by our male members’ cooking skills as well! We shared our food together and could taste the different cooking and marinating style of everyone!

Welcome back to our heroes from Xiamen!

May 26, 2011 in Events by VPPR Team

After exchanging valuable experiences from other excellent toastmasters while enjoying wonderful seafood, three members from our club Katie, Tina and Jerel came back from the Xiamen Spring Conference 2011. The conference is held twice a year for the Toastmasters District 85 – this means Toastmasters members of Greater China, Hong Kong and Macau.

And this year, guess how many people attended? 1000! Let me repeat, ONE THOUSAND! During 13 – 15 May 2011, on the campus nearby a beautiful Beach in Xiamen, wonderful speeches were held throughout the entire event. From prepared speeches in the contest to conversations between members all around China, the whole meeting provided a harmonious and friendly atmosphere to improve English speaking and to learn from each other. Amongst the interesting and insightful workshops, Rory Vaden, a VIP speaker, taught the members to apply the “A.L.I.V.E.” rule to keep any audience awake during their presentations. “A.L.I.V.E.” refers to “Attentive”, “Laugh”, “Interested”, “Vulnerable” and “Engaged”. All in all, it was a memorable experience for everyone who attended the meeting.

Don’t forget our heroes who bring the honors to our club! Jerel was one of the judges of the Toastmasters International Speech Contest on District Level and Tina was elected to become the Division Q Governor.

Missed this meeting? Don’t worry! The next Winter Conference will be in Hong Kong and the next Spring Conference even around the corner in Hangzhou. Be prepared and maybe you can be one of the champions!
