The First Time as TME(Toastmaster of Evening)
October 28, 2009 in Educational, Events, General by Wen Bin
Yesterday, I was “Toastmaster for the Evening” for the first time. The toastmaster is responsible for organising the evening’s main speakers and other participants, and for introducing each participant to the audience. It’s a chance to be the host for the whole two hour event.
It was a learning experience. Here comes the summary:
What I did OK:
–Successfully kept the whole process smoothly running.
–Tried the new way to introduce speakers before the speech, from their expertise, background, name etc.
–Tried to make some funny comments, though few laugh.
What I can do better:
–As a TME, you got to control the whole situation like: start the meeting on time, stop the speaker in case his/her time really running out etc. Follow the Toastmaster rule, this is the excellent point Rex made yesterday.
–Role Announcement.I DID introduce the time keeper/ah counter but forget to mention evaluator.
–Transition comments between the speaks is made in kind of rush. How to make it more seamlessly and naturally ?
It was a nice meeting, with again almost 20 people attending! I think you did great as a toastmaster
